I feel this image truly sums up the trip so far for us. Mountains, camping and pretty epic views (with the occasional beer or 3). On the way to Mt cook, we hiked mt somars which gave some excellent views, we hiked up to the observatory at lake tekapo (an incredibly blue lake) and then we ended up going to Mt cook village as we didn't realise you couldn't get to it from the west coast.... And so we had to cram 3 hikes into an afternoon meaning almost constant walking for around 8 hours... But the views were surreal and the Mueller hut walk had an excellent, if slightly sketchy, optional scramble section which led us to the top. Today, needing a well earned break, we headed away from the storms, stopping at various locations including the elephant rocks for a quick boulder and oamaru for a bit of a mooch. Bring on Dunedin over the next week!
